OVERVIEW
48SouthEast is a small software studio that builds and runs its own systems.
Alongside this, the studio takes on selective external engagements where a system needs
stabilisation, redesign, or a new build.
Most activity takes place in production environments where software behaviour affects revenue,
reporting, or operational decisions.
Building and running our own systems keeps delivery standards grounded in real operational constraints.
OPERATING MODE
Set the context. The console returns an operating mode and a starting plan.

EVIDENCE
Case notes from recent production work. Client identifiers and sensitive details are removed.
Zero-downtime migration
Situation: Live platform with a brittle release process.
Constraint: Zero downtime tolerance during migration.
Intervention: Staged deployment, clear cutover steps, rollback paths tested before release.
Result: Releases became predictable and incidents reduced.
Field note: Recovery moved from ad-hoc response to controlled rollback windows within a single release cycle.
Internal ops replacement
Situation: Spreadsheet-driven operational workflow with manual collation.
Constraint: Decisions depended on stale or inconsistent data.
Intervention: Replaced the workflow with an auditable internal system with defined inputs and outputs.
Result: Faster cycle time and traceable decision data.
Field note: Core reporting moved from manual compilation to same-day system output.
Revenue-path hardening
Situation: Marketplace system with a high-volume transaction path.
Constraint: Edge-case behaviour affected revenue reporting and operational confidence.
Intervention: Reworked critical paths and expanded tests around known failure modes.
Result: Improved correctness and fewer high-impact defects.
Field note: Revenue-impacting edge cases dropped materially after targeted hardening of critical flows.
OPERATING PRINCIPLES
Principles are enforced in delivery. They are not used as marketing claims.
Clarity over velocity theater
Prefer explicit tradeoffs and measurable progress over inflated timelines.
Tradeoff: Scope is narrowed rather than promising speed that cannot be defended.
Correctness before scale
Establish predictable behaviour first, then optimise throughput and cost.
Tradeoff: Growth work is delayed when core flows are still brittle.
Own the live environment
Delivery includes operational accountability, not just merged pull requests.
Tradeoff: Fewer, safer releases are preferred over high-volume change bursts.
FIT / NOT FIT
Engagements work best with a defined owner, a clear decision path, and a problem that is already real.
Good fit
- Clear problem with business or operational consequence.
- Stakeholders can make decisions during delivery.
- Preference for maintainability and dependable systems.
Not a fit
- No internal owner for the system during delivery.
- Success criteria are timeline-only, with no quality threshold.
- Problem definition is still exploratory, with no operational pressure or decision path.
ENGAGEMENT MODEL
- Short scoping call to establish constraints, failure modes, and success criteria.
- Practical delivery plan with explicit scope, risks, operating mode, and first milestone.
- Build in increments with weekly checkpoints using working software, a change log, and an explicit decision list.
- Handover with documentation, continuity notes, and an access revocation plan.
IP AND DATA
IP created during client engagements remains with the client as defined in written agreements.
- Confidentiality is baseline, not add-on.
- Access is scoped to delivery need and revoked at close.
- Credentials and environments are managed with clear separation.
- Data handling is explicit and auditable.
